About Round Stone
Pedra Redonda is Monte Verde’s best-known trail. The summit, wide and flat, sits near 2,000 meters altitude, right on the border between Minas Gerais and São Paulo, and opens to a 360-degree view over the Serra da Mantiqueira.
The trail starts from the parking lot at the end of Avenida das Montanhas, about 3.5 km from the center by a road that is mostly unpaved, where there is an information point. It’s about 900 meters one way, with climbs for most of the path, a first viewpoint and a final stretch with stairs to the top.
The route is marked and is usually done without a guide, by adults and children used to hiking. On rainy days the trail may be closed by the administration. From the top you can see the other rocks of the district, such as Chapéu do Bispo and Pedra Partida, and on clear days the ranges on the São Paulo side.
