About Pedra do Forno

Pedra do Forno is the most sought-after mountain in Gonçalves for those who want wide views of the Serra da Mantiqueira. It is in the Terra Fria neighborhood, opposite Pedra Chanfrada, and its bare-rock summit exceeds 1,850 meters elevation.

The trail is between 2.6 and 3.2 km round trip. It departs from a gate by the roadside, enters the forest, passes springs and a stand of araucárias, and climbs steeply to the top. The final section is exposed, over rock, and requires caution on windy or wet days.

From the summit the view is 360 degrees: the Terra Fria valley, Pedra Chanfrada and, on clear days, the ranges of Campos do Jordão and Monte Verde. It is one of the highest points around Gonçalves.
