About Pedra Chanfrada
Pedra Chanfrada is one of Gonçalves's best-known formations: a rock cliff almost 100 meters high. It is located in the rural Terra Fria neighborhood, about 10 km from the center, in an area of forest with araucárias and pines.
The trail is about 2 km round trip and is self-guided, with signs. It starts at the parking area of a rural restaurant, the traditional departure point, and climbs steadily, with steep and rocky sections, up to the top of the rock. The ascent typically takes 30 to 50 minutes.
From the summit the view opens onto the Terra Fria valley and Pedra do Forno, directly opposite. On clear days you can also see the Mantiqueira ranges toward Campos do Jordão and Monte Verde.
