About Lakeshore of Lagoa Santa
The lagoon that gives the city of Lagoa Santa its name is a shallow natural lagoon, at most about 3 meters deep, fed by rain and small streams. It has an almost triangular shape and about 6.3 km of shoreline, all occupied by an urban promenade with a walking path, bike lane, kiosks and leisure areas. Some residents call it the Lagoa Central.
In the early 1970s an artificial beach was built on one of the banks. Today the lagoon is mainly used for walking, running, cycling and sports, and the evening at the promenade is the pastime of many residents and visitors.
Near the shore are the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Saúde, Praça Dr. Lund with the naturalist's bust, and restaurants. Peter Lund's tomb, under a pequizeiro, and the Centro de Arqueologia Annette Laming Emperaire, created in 1983 by the municipality, complete a walk through the town connected to the history of karst research.
