São Gonçalo do Rio das Pedras is a district of Serro on the Caminho dos Diamantes of the Estrada Real, cut by the Rio das Pedras and surrounded by the Serra do Espinhaço. The village grew out of gold mining and became a trading point for tropeiros in the 19th century. The streets of colonial houses lead to the Igreja Matriz de São Gonçalo and the Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, and there are waterfalls and river pools in the surroundings.
