About Thermas Antônio Carlos

The Thermas Antônio Carlos were inaugurated in 1931 and are considered the first modern thermal establishment in Brazil. The building was designed at the end of the 1920s by architect Eduardo Pederneiras, featuring large arched openings, a stairway at the entrance and neoclassical-style decoration. The name honors Antônio Carlos Ribeiro de Andrada, governor of Minas who financed the remodeling of Poços de Caldas as a spa town.

The building is part of the architectural and landscape ensemble of Parque José Affonso Junqueira, in the city center, next to the Palace Casino, built at the same time. The park has gardens and promenades and is near the boarding point of the Serra de São Domingos cable car.

The baths use the city's sulfurous water, which springs at about 45 °C and reaches the bathtubs at around 37 °C. The building has four levels, with immersion baths, showers, saunas, inhalation, a mechanotherapy room with equipment brought from Germany in the 1920s and massage rooms.

Baths and treatments are paid separately and follow the administration's schedule, linked to the state government. Check the services, the current price list and whether reservation is required before you go.
