What the guide covers

The guide starts in Santiago, where most international flights arrive, and proceeds from north to south: the Atacama Desert, the Elqui Valley, Valparaíso and Viña del Mar, the vineyards of the Central Valley, the lakes and volcanoes of the south, Chiloé, the Carretera Austral and Torres del Paine. And, in the middle of the Pacific, Easter Island.

Each destination brings together the towns in the region, what to do in each, individual pages for attractions, when to go, and how to get there.

A long country divided into regions

Chile is divided into regions, and the guide organizes the towns by those regions.

The country is narrow and very long: from the northern desert to the southern glaciers, the climate varies greatly, and the best time to visit each destination does too. Between regions, the most common route is an internal flight from Santiago.

Why there are no prices

Outside Brazil, the guide does not show tour or ticket prices because they change frequently. The text notes when there is an entrance fee or charge, and the amount should be checked before you go.

How the content is made

The information for each place is sourced from official sources, such as Chilean tourism bodies and regional offices, national parks, city governments and the attractions themselves, and is checked before being published.

The pictures in this guide are illustrations based on the real place, not photographs, and may differ from it. Photos sent by travelers appear separately, as travelers' photos.
