How many days

One day: morning at Healesville Sanctuary and afternoon at the Yarra Valley wineries. Those who want to do the dawn hot-air balloon flight over the valley stay overnight in the region.

When to go

Autumn, from March to May, is harvest time and when the leaves change color. Spring brings budding vineyards. Summer is hot and can have total fire-ban days; winter is cold and rainy, good for wine and the fireplace.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

Important to know: wineries are spread across the valley and buses are infrequent. Those planning tastings should have a sober driver or join a tour. In Australia you drive on the left.
