Frequently asked questions

Why sleep in Kâhta to visit Nemrut?

The town serves as a road base for the mountain and the monuments of Commagene. Staying in this area avoids treating Nemrut as a short day trip from Şanlıurfa, which is on a different leg of the journey.

Is it mandatory to climb Nemrut before sunrise?

The visit can take place at other times compatible with access. Sunrise requires departing in the dark and does not guarantee clear skies; choose the timing also based on readiness for the road and the hike.

Which excursions can be combined with Nemrut departing from Kâhta?

Cendere and Arsameia allow you to observe another part of the region's history. Distribute the stops according to the route and the effort of the climb, rather than leaving all the monuments for after the mountain.

Does the car reach the statues at Nemrut?

Motorized transport covers the approach by road. Final access to the terraces is on foot uphill, and visiting time needs to include that stage.
