Göreme – Nevşehir Destination Cappadocia
How to get there
-
Nevşehir Kapadokya Havalimanı (NAV) Gülşehir · 40 km
-
Kayseri Havalimanı (ASR) Kayseri · 75 km
Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.
From airports ASR or NAV, use a prearranged transfer to Göreme. Check whether the service drops you at your accommodation; some streets and accesses have steep slopes. Regional buses connect with nearby centres.
How many days
Three or four nights allow time for the valleys and more than one morning available to attempt a balloon flight.
When to go
April to June and September to October usually favor Göreme’s valleys. July and August are hot during the day; December to March can bring snow and cold. The balloon flight depends on suitable conditions in any month.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
In Göreme, some services are within walking distance. For the valleys and southern circuits, arrange a tour, transfer or car.

Frequently asked questions
Is Göreme a good base for someone who doesn’t rent a car?
The village concentrates accommodation, dining and organised departures around Cappadocia. The open-air museum is nearby, but Ihlara and the underground cities require regional transport.
Do the Göreme balloons fly every day?
The flight depends on authorization and wind conditions. Allow more than one morning if the flight is important to you and keep ground visits as part of the itinerary.
How many nights to stay in Göreme on a first trip?
Three or four nights give time for the museum, the valleys and a southern circuit. With only one, arrival and departure can take up much of the available time in the region.
Can you see Göreme just with balloon rides?
The flight shows the landscape from above, but does not replace the excavated churches or the walks. Reserve a visit to the museum and pick at least one valley to see the formations up close.
