Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.
Arrive by road from Göreme or Avanos and continue on foot through the Çavuşin core. Check which accesses to the excavated complex are open.
How many days
Half a day for the village and the hillside landscape; more time if you combine a hike with an organized return.
When to go
April to June and September to October generally favor walking on the Çavuşin hillside. In summer there are sections exposed to the sun; from December to March, cold and snow can change the available route.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
Within the Çavuşin core, walk. To arrive from the Cappadocia base and continue to other valleys, combine transport.

Frequently asked questions
Is Çavuşin just a stop to photograph the rock?
The old core lets you observe dwellings and religious spaces carved into the hillside. It’s worth spending time on the complex and its relationship to the village, rather than limiting the visit to a roadside photo.
Can Çavuşin, Paşabağ and Zelve be combined?
These stops belong to the circuit north of Göreme. Choose transport between the centers and spread out the walks so you don’t arrive at Zelve without time to explore the valleys.
Do I need to climb to the old part of Çavuşin?
The hillside can already be observed from the base, while the ascent route depends on permitted access and willingness to climb steps. They are different ways of experiencing the place.
Is it necessary to change accommodation to visit Çavuşin?
Those based in Göreme or another nearby base can include the village on a regional outing. Overnighting is a pacing option, not a requirement to see the old core.
