Get to know the place

A region to enjoy
at your own pace.

Ostrava presents a landscape tied to industrial work. Dolní Vítkovice preserves iron-production structures and offers visitor, science and cultural circuits. Landek Park, in another area, lets you learn the history of mining through the spaces and equipment of a former mine.

The New Town Hall adds an observation tower that helps understand the city’s scale. The centre and the industrial complexes are not all together, so the route requires urban transport between walking periods. Those extending the trip can visit Rožnov pod Radhoštěm and the Wallachian Open-Air Museum, near the Beskydy.

The city can be part of a train crossing between Moravia and other parts of Central Europe. Technical explanations are more useful when the activity language is chosen in advance.

Landek Park

Landek Park gathers mining heritage in Ostrava-Petřkovice. The museum lets you see equipment, the history of work and routes connected to an old mine. The complex occupies its own area outside the central core and should not be confused with the Dolní Vítkovice facilities.

Before you go

Practical information

A little planning leaves more time to enjoy the journey.

When to go

May to September usually favors outdoor routes and the trip to the open-air museum. From December to February, winter is typically cold with short days; confirm the circuits and allocate more time to indoor activities.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

How many days to stay

Three days for the center, Dolní Vítkovice and Landek Park. Add one day for Rožnov pod Radhoštěm and the open-air museum.

Which city to stay in

The center provides services and transport. For stays tied to a specific activity, also check the connection to Vítkovice; proximity on the map does not substitute for a convenient urban connection.

Respect the place

Take your trash with you, follow the signs and support local businesses. In natural areas, follow the visiting guidelines.
