Boca Chica – Província de Santo Domingo Destination Santo Domingo
How to get there
-
Aeropuerto Internacional de Las Américas (SDQ) Punta Caucedo · 8 km
Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.
It is about 30 km from the Ciudad Colonial via the Las Américas highway and about 8 km from Aeropuerto de Las Américas. From Santo Domingo there are taxis, ride-hailing apps and buses and vans that run along the highway to the east, about 40 minutes without traffic.
How many days
One day is enough for the beach as a day trip from the capital. One night makes sense for those who arrive late or depart early from Aeropuerto de Las Américas.
When to go
From December to April it usually rains less and the sea is clearer. On weekends and holidays the beach fills with families from the capital; Monday to Friday it's calmer. From June to November, hurricane season, there are afternoon showers.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
No. The town is small and the beach is right at the center. To get there, taxi, ride-hailing app or highway bus will do. A car only helps to combine Boca Chica with Juan Dolio and other points along the coast.

One day in Boca Chica
-
Morning
Beach in the morning

-
Afternoon
Fried fish lunch
Have lunch at one of the stalls on the sand or on Rua Duarte: fried fish with tostones and salad is the beach’s classic dish.
-
Late afternoon
Boat to La Matica
At the end of the afternoon, take a short boat ride to the islet of La Matica and the mangroves in front of it, or walk along the waterfront to the east side of the bay.
-
Evening
Rua Duarte
At night, Rua Duarte, parallel to the beach, is where bars and restaurants are concentrated.
