About Playa Esmeralda
Playa Esmeralda is a few kilometers east of the town of Miches, on the southern shore of Samaná Bay. It is a long stretch of light, fine sand, with dense coconut groves and a sea in shades of green and blue, usually calm because it lies inside the bay. In the background, the hills of the Cordillera Oriental form a rare green backdrop for Dominican beaches.
The beach gave its name to Costa Esmeralda and was the site chosen by the first large hotels in the region, built at low density and set apart from each other. Even so, there are long undeveloped stretches where you can walk for kilometers without meeting anyone.
Streams descend from the mountains and reach the sea at certain points, forming small lagoons. The water is generally good for swimming, with gentle waves, and the beach is ideal for long walks, especially early and late in the day.
