About Montaña Redonda
Montaña Redonda is an isolated hill of about 300 meters in altitude, with a rounded grass-covered top, east of Miches. From the summit the view is circular: on one side, Samaná Bay and Laguna Redonda with a rugged coastline; on the other, the hills and plantations of inland El Seibo. On clear days you can see the Samaná Peninsula and Los Haitises National Park.
The summit became a social media attraction because of swings hung from wooden structures, hammocks and the brooms visitors use in photos that simulate flying. There is also a simple snack bar and a picnic area, and adventure seekers can paraglide down on certain days.
The final ascent is along a steep dirt-and-concrete road, done on foot or in the pickup trucks and jeeps that wait at the base. Along the route and at the top, the vegetation is pasture and low scrub, and the wind usually blows strong, which eases the heat.
