About Laguna Limón
Laguna Limón is a protected coastal lagoon east of Miches, near Sabana de Nisibón. The water is a mix of fresh water from mountain rivers and salt water that enters through the channel connecting the lagoon to the sea. Mangroves and wetland vegetation grow around it, and the area forms a refuge for wildlife.
The lagoon is home to herons, egrets, ducks, moorhens and other water birds, as well as fish and crabs. Local fishermen offer boat trips in rowboats or motorboats through the mangrove channels to the outlet to the sea, where there is a deserted beach with light sand.
There are trails and horse-riding areas nearby, and the trip is often combined with Montaña Redonda, which is a few kilometers away and from where you can see Laguna Redonda, a neighbor of Limón.
