Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.
Confirm before purchasing. Cibao airport (STI), in Santiago, is about an hour away. From Santo Domingo it’s about two and a half hours via the Duarte highway to La Vega and then the mountain road; there are direct buses.
How many days
Two days: one for the Jimenoa and Baiguate waterfalls, another for rafting or a horseback ride. The trek to Pico Duarte adds two or three days.
When to go
Year-round, due to the mild climate. From December to April there is less rain and it’s the season for the Pico Duarte trek. From May to October the rivers are fuller for rafting, with afternoon showers.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
There is transport assistance to reach the waterfalls and viewpoints, but there are mototaxis, taxis and organized tours. In the town center, everything is done on foot.
