About Jardim de Santa Bárbara
The Jardim de Santa Bárbara occupies a space beside the medieval wing of the former Paço Episcopal of Braga, whose stone walls and Gothic arches form the garden’s backdrop.
The beds, laid out with box hedges, fill with flowers in spring and summer. In the centre there is a 17th-century fountain topped by the statue of Santa Bárbara.
The former Paço Episcopal around the garden was the residence of the archbishops and today houses the Public Library and services of the Universidade do Minho.
The garden is a few steps from Praça da República and Avenida Central, the heart of Braga’s life. Shaded benches and the central fountain make it a pleasant stop between visits.
