About Veracruz Aquarium
The Veracruz aquarium is on the seaside boulevard between the center and Boca del Río, in a shell-shaped building. It opened in 1992 and is one of the largest aquariums in Latin America.
The route begins with the reef tank, a large aquarium that reproduces the reefs of the Sistema Arrecifal Veracruzano, with corals, colorful fish, rays and turtles. Then come the freshwater rooms with fish from Mexico’s rivers and lagoons, and the shark tank, which is crossed by a tunnel.
The aquarium also houses manatees, penguins and other animals, and carries out research and rescue work for Gulf species.
Being covered, it is a good option on rainy days or during a norte, when the wind prevents beach activities.
