About Coatepec Historic Center

The center of Coatepec is organized around the Miguel Hidalgo park, a tree-lined square with a bandstand. On the east side is the church of San Jerónimo, the town’s patron saint, dating from the 18th century, with a restrained façade and neoclassical altars.

The surrounding streets have low houses with thick walls, clay tile roofs, and iron grilles. Many retain interior courtyards with plants, ferns and orchids, which the town cultivates thanks to the humid mountain climate.

Coffee is part of everyday life: downtown has cafés and roasters that sell the region’s beans and serve drinks prepared to order. There are also fruit sweets, liqueurs, and restaurants serving trout raised in the mountain rivers.

The town is on a hillside, and on clear days you can see the mountains covered with coffee plantations and forest.
