About Cascada Cola de Caballo
The Cola de Caballo waterfall is in Parque Nacional Cumbres de Monterrey, about 6 km from Santiago’s center on the road toward El Cercado and the highlands. The water drops roughly 25 meters over moss and rock, spreading into strands that resemble a horse’s tail.
From the entrance, a paved path climbs about 1 km through the forest to the base of the waterfall. There are also horseback and carriage rides.
The waterfall has more water after the rains, from August to October. Swimming in the fall is usually prohibited.
The area has restaurants and shops selling sweets and crafts along the access road, and the surrounding national park protects mountain ranges, canyons and pine and oak forests.
