About El Arco (Land's End)
El Arco is the granite formation at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, in Cabo San Lucas. The group of rocks, also called Land's End, or Finisterra, marks the point where the Pacific Ocean meets the Gulf of California. The rocks formed about 115 million years ago and were sculpted by the erosion of the sea.
The arch can be seen from many points of the bay and from El Médano beach, but up close it is only reachable by boat. Tours depart from the marina on glass-bottom boats, water taxis or kayaks, circle the rocks, pass the sea lion colony that usually rests on the stones and show the arch from both sides.
At low tide a sand strip appears under the arch. Nearby are two beaches: Playa del Amor, facing the Gulf, and the Pacific-side beach, with open sea where swimming is not recommended.
The shortest tour takes about an hour. On windy days, boats may not depart or may not stop at the beaches.
