About Centro de Tlaquepaque e El Parián
The center of Tlaquepaque was the site of summer houses for Guadalajara families in the 19th century, and the colorful mansions, with interior courtyards, now house galleries, handicraft shops, restaurants and small hotels. The Independencia pedestrian promenade is the main street, for pedestrians only.
The Parián is a large courtyard surrounded by arcades, built at the end of the 19th century as a market, where today restaurants and bars operate. On the central bandstand and among the tables, mariachis play from midday, and on weekends there are folk dance performances.
Around Jardín Hidalgo are the parish of San Pedro and the Santuario de la Soledad. The Regional Ceramics Museum and the Pantaleón Panduro Museum show the region's clay tradition, with pieces from the National Ceramics Prize.
In the blown-glass workshops near the center, it is possible to see the artisans working.
