About Catedral de Chihuahua
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Chihuahua was built between 1725 and 1826 with money from the region’s silver mines, and is considered the main baroque building in northern Mexico. The stone façade features figures of the twelve apostles and Saint Francis of Assisi, and the two towers are about 40 meters high.
The interior was remodeled in neoclassical style and has a Carrara marble altar and a German organ. In the basement, a small museum of sacred art displays paintings and religious objects.
In front, the Plaza de Armas has a bandstand, pigeons and shoeshiners, and is the heart of the city’s life.
At night the façade is illuminated.
