About Hverir

Hverir lies at the foot of Námafjall, east of Reykjahlíð. The geothermal field features mud pools, steam vents, and heat-altered ground. Sparse vegetation makes the mineral tones and texture differences more visible.

Observation is done from the designated boardwalks, without crossing active areas. Steam and the movement of mud alter the appearance of the scene during the visit. The site allows comparison of geothermal activity forms that are not high-jet geysers.

Access is close to Route 1, making it an easy stop while traveling around Mývatn. Allow time to look at the field’s details and understand its position by the mountain. Do not confuse the visit with a thermal bath: Hverir is an observation area for natural processes.
