About Goðafoss
Goðafoss occupies a wide stretch of the Skjálfandafljót river, near Route 1. The water fans over a curved edge, creating falls separated by rock. The open form makes it possible to understand the whole without approaching through a long canyon.
The two banks offer different perspectives. Paths and walkways structure the viewing, allowing you to choose a short visit or a longer route between viewpoints. The color and volume of the water vary with the river conditions and the light.
The waterfall can be included on the route between Akureyri and Mývatn, avoiding a return trip solely from town. Allow walking time in addition to the vehicle stop. If you intend to visit both sides, check how you will link them and which sections are accessible on arrival.
