About Imatrankoski
Imatrankoski is the rapids section of the Vuoksi River that put Imatra on the tourist map. The rocky channel can be viewed from the banks and nearby crossings. The area includes Kruununpuisto park, where the ground bears marks of water action on the rock.
The landscape changes with the operation of the sluices. Outside scheduled releases, parts of the riverbed may be exposed without the flow seen in spectacle photographs. Therefore, the interest of the visit also lies in the shape of the channel, the rocks and the park paths, not only in moving water.
Check the release schedule if that is the purpose of your trip; releases typically have a specific calendar between June and August, plus occasional single events. Do not automatically assume that a visit on any given day will show the rapids in full. Allow time for the riverside walks.
