About Playa de Las Teresitas

Playa de Las Teresitas sits beside the fishing village of San Andrés, about 8 km northeast of Santa Cruz, at the foot of the Anaga mountains. It is the most popular beach for the capital’s residents.

In the early 1970s the original beach, with dark sand and rocks, was transformed: a breakwater was built parallel to the shore to tame the waves, and millions of sacks of light sand were brought from the Sahara, then under Spanish rule. The result is a strip of about 1.3 km of golden sand, with palm trees and calm seas.

The beach has lifeguards, showers, kiosks and parking. Behind it, the dry slopes of the Anaga mountains form the backdrop.

In San Andrés, the streets near the sea have fish and seafood restaurants frequented by city families at weekends, and a small ruined defensive tower.
