About Anaga Rural Park
The Parque Rural de Anaga covers the mountain massif in northeast Tenerife, one of the island’s oldest parts, about 7 million years old. Erosion there has carved narrow ridges, deep valleys and cliffs that fall to the sea. Since 2015, Anaga has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Higher up, the moisture brought by the trade winds sustains the laurisilva — laurel forest and other broad‑leaf trees — covered in moss and lichens, a type of woodland that existed in southern Europe millions of years ago and today survives on a few Atlantic islands. Mist is frequent.
Waymarked trails start from the Cruz del Carmen visitor centre, such as the Sendero de los Sentidos, short and easy, and longer routes that descend to the sea. The viewpoints at Pico del Inglés and Jardina show the ridges and, on clear days, the Teide.
On the north side, villages like Taganana, Almáciga and Roque de las Bodegas have white houses, terraced vineyards and black‑sand beaches with fish restaurants.
