About Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín
The Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín was designed by Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava and opened in 2003, on the seafront avenue of Santa Cruz, next to the port and the old Castillo de San Juan. The name honors Adán Martín, president of the Canary Islands government.
The building is made of white concrete covered in trencadís, a mosaic of broken ceramic tiles, and the standout feature is the roof: a large curved wing that rises from the main body and projects about 60 meters, like a wave or a sail, with no support at the tip.
Inside are the symphonic hall, with around 1,600 seats and an organ, and a chamber music hall. It is the home of the Orquestra Sinfônica de Tenerife and hosts opera seasons, concerts and performances.
The square around the building, open to the sea, and the promenade on the breakwaters are good places to view the building from several angles.
