About Lago Martiánez
The Complejo Turístico Costa Martiánez, known as Lago Martiánez, was designed by Canary artist and architect César Manrique and opened in 1977 on the waterfront of Puerto de la Cruz. The idea was to give the town, which has rough seas and rocky beaches, a safe place for sea bathing.
Manrique created a set of seawater pools, with a large central lake of about 15,000 square meters, volcanic stone islets, palm trees, Canary plants, waterfalls, terraces and sculptures by the artist himself. The layout follows the coastline and uses black lava as material, as in other works by Manrique in Lanzarote.
The complex has pools for adults and children, sun terraces, bars and restaurants, and a view of the sea breaking on the rocks right next door. the San Telmo promenade links the Lago to the town centre.
An entrance fee is charged, and opening hours change with the season.
