About Las Canteras Beach
Playa de Las Canteras is on the west side of the isthmus of Guanarteme, the narrow strip of land that links the center of Las Palmas to the peninsula of La Isleta. It has about 3 km of golden sand and is the city's urban beach, frequented by locals year-round.
About 200 meters from the sand, a natural sandstone reef, La Barra, runs parallel to the coast along much of the beach. It breaks the Atlantic waves and creates a sort of natural pool, with calm, shallow water at low tide. With a mask you can see colorful fish and octopus near the rocks. At the southern tip, next to the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, the waves are larger and attract surfers.
The Paseo de Las Canteras, the promenade that runs the length of the beach, has restaurants, bars, ice-cream shops and hotels, and is the city's place for walking and running. The sunset, sometimes with the Teide of Tenerife visible on the horizon, gathers people in the late afternoon.
The beach has lifeguards, showers and adapted access.
