About Playa de Poniente
Playa de Poniente stretches for about 3 km west of Benidorm's old town, from the port to the Punta del Tossal de la Cala. It is wider and longer than Levante and is usually calmer, frequented by families and locals.
The promenade, the Paseo de Poniente, was redesigned in the first decade of this century by the office of architect Carlos Ferrater, with low walls and undulating terraces of white concrete and a pavement in bands of bright colours. The project won architecture awards and became one of the city's postcards.
At the tip near the port is the area of Tío Ximo, with the statue of the popular character and the ascent to the old town. At the other end, the beach ends in the small cove of La Cala.
Because it faces west, Poniente is the place to watch the sunset in Benidorm, with the Sierra de Bèrnia and Puig Campana in the background.
