About Isla de Benidorm
Isla de Benidorm is a rocky, triangular islet about 3 km from the coast that closes the bay between the beaches of Levante and Poniente. It is part of the Parque Natural de la Serra Gelada, which protects the coastline and surrounding sea.
A legend says the island is a piece of mountain torn off by the giant Roldán from the Puig Campana range, which has a notch at the top, and thrown into the sea. The island is uninhabited, with a small cove, a jetty, a bar and a path that climbs to the highest point, with views back towards the town.
The main attraction is the sea: the marine reserve has posidonia meadows and many fish, great for snorkeling. Seabirds, such as gulls and cormorants, nest on the rocks.
Some boats have glass bottoms, which let you see the seabed without diving.
