The city
Vargem Bonita is a small town on the banks of the Rio São Francisco, shortly after it descends from the Serra da Canastra. It was founded during the diamond rush and serves as a base for the lower section of Cachoeira Casca d'Anta, about 22 km away via Portaria 4 of the national park. Near the town center are the Cachoeira da Chinela and river beaches on the São Francisco.

The local experience
First major drop of the Rio São Francisco, with 186 meters, on the edge of the Serra da Canastra. The lower section, with the pool at the foot of the fall, is visited via Portaria 4 of the national park; the upper section, with pools before the plunge, via Portaria 1.
Discover Cachoeira Casca d'Anta
Waterfall on a private farm a few kilometers from Vargem Bonita, with greenish water pools, a spring water spout and a restored stone mill. The trail is short and easy.
