About Lamington National Park
Lamington National Park was established in 1915 on the McPherson Range plateau, on the border between Queensland and New South Wales, at about 900 metres above sea level. It is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and protects one of the largest areas of subtropical forest in the world.
The park has two main entrances: Green Mountains, to the west, near the O'Reilly's accommodation, and Binna Burra, to the east. From each there are trails ranging from short walks to full-day hikes, over more than 160 km of paths, with waterfalls, viewpoints over the valleys and century-old Antarctic beeches, trees that recall when Australia and Antarctica were joined.
At Green Mountains, a suspended walkway through the treetops allows you to see the forest from above. Birds are a highlight, with colourful parrots, the satin bowerbird and the lyrebird.
No park entry fee is charged. Access roads are narrow, winding and have tight bends.

Practical information
Cidade Turismo reviews its information regularly, but something may have changed. Check with the place before planning your trip.
How much time to set aside
A full day; those who want to do longer hikes stay overnight in the area.
Best time
From April to October, with drier, cooler conditions for hiking. In summer the rains swell the waterfalls but make the trails more slippery.
How to get there
By car, from Tamborine Mountain via the Canungra road to Green Mountains in about an hour; Binna Burra is reached via Nerang and Beechmont.
Tip
Download the trail maps before you go because mobile signal is weak in the park. Bring warm clothing: the plateau is much colder than the coast.
