There are transfers, rental cars and ride‑hailing apps; the commuter train reaches the town station, but check operations beforehand.

How many days

One day for the historic centre, the Village Museum and two nearby wine farms. With two days, add a morning in Jonkershoek and a lunch at a farm on the Helshoogte road en route to Franschhoek.

When to go

From February to April, during the harvest, the farms are busy and the weather is still warm. In autumn the oaks in town and the vineyards change colour. Winter brings more rain, and summer is hot and dry, with days above 30 °C.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

Not for the centre, which is walked on foot. For the wine farms and Jonkershoek, yes — or a car with driver and organized tours that connect properties. If you plan to taste wine, don’t drive. Driving is on the left.
