The city

What to expect from Stellenbosch.

Founded in 1679 by Governor Simon van der Stel, Stellenbosch is the second-oldest town in South Africa. The centre, known as the town of oaks, features Dorp Street with 18th-century houses, the Moederkerk church, the Village Museum in four restored houses, and the University of Stellenbosch campus with its botanical garden. In the surroundings are dozens of wine farms and the Jonkershoek reserve, with mountain trails.
