Frequently asked questions

Can Ayder be visited from Trebizonda?

The approach follows the coast to the Rize area and then climbs via the Fırtına valley. It is a mountain road outing, for which it may make sense to book a night in the region.

Is Ayder a starting point for the Kaçkar mountains?

The village is one of the bases associated with the region's highlands. A mountain trek requires its own itinerary, transport and preparation; strolling the core of Ayder is not equivalent to crossing the Kaçkar.

Can I combine Ayder and Zilkale without changing hotel?

The castle sits in the Fırtına valley system on another road branch. Plan the circuit with a driver or car and consider road conditions, not as a walk from the village.

In Ayder can you see the mountains even with rain?

The slopes can be shrouded in fog for part of the outing. Plan the day around available weather and enjoy the valley landscape without relying on wide summit views.
