Büyükada is in the Sea of Marmara, in the archipelago of the Princes’ Islands. Arrival at the pier leads to a hub of shopping streets, from which walks begin through neighborhoods of wooden houses and tree-lined roads. The experience contrasts with the busy traffic of central Istanbul.

Routes range from a short circuit near the port to longer walks along the slopes. The climb to the Aya Yorgi area requires more effort and does not automatically fit into any day trip. The chosen extent should consider the terrain and the departure time of the return ferry.

Plan the visit as a separate day and check the ferry lines, because piers and stops change depending on the service. Activity usually increases on fine-weather weekends. Sea conditions influence the crossing, so allow margin before a flight or other commitment off the island.
