About Kızılçukur Vadisi
Kızılçukur is a valley of reddish rock in the area between Göreme and Ortahisar, known in Portuguese as the Red Valley.
Erosion has shaped ridges, walls and passages in the volcanic tuff. The colour changes with the light, but the visit is also of interest for the landform shapes and the scale of the slopes. Walking through the valley and viewing the landscape from a lookout are different activities, with distinct time and transport needs.
Choose the itinerary according to the distance you intend to cover and the starting point. Trails may intersect, and the return does not need to be where the walk began. Organise the final transfer before entering the valley and consider the available light to finish the hike.

Frequently asked questions about Kızılçukur Vadisi
Do I need to hike the entire trail to see Red Valley?
A lookout allows you to view the terrain without traversing the entire valley floor. The hike offers a different experience and requires choosing the length and exit in advance.
Why do the rocks of Kızılçukur seem to change color?
Lighting alters the perception of the reddish tones of the tuff. The effect depends on the sky and the viewing angle, so the interest should not be limited to a single color expected in a photograph.
How to arrange the return from a walk in Red Valley?
Decide if the route returns to the start or ends at a different access point. Arrange the vehicle meeting point before entering the paths, considering the available light to finish the route.
