About Kilitbahir Kalesi
Kilitbahir occupies the European shore of the narrow section of the Dardanelles. The fortress is linked to Çimenlik on the Çanakkale side and shows how defense depended on controlling both shores. The name itself is associated with the idea of locking the maritime passage.
The layout and towers differ from a residential castle because the primary function was military. The visit allows observation of the construction and its position by the water. Exhibition areas and internal circulation should be confirmed, especially for those with difficulty using steps and narrow passages.
Arrival can be via regional ferry links, followed by a walk to the entrance. Include the fortress on a Gallipoli day only if there is sufficient time, without assuming memorials and both fortresses are all at the same point of the strait.
