About Çimenlik Kalesi
Çimenlik sits on Çanakkale’s central waterfront on the Asian side of the Dardanelles. The fortress was built to control passage through the strait and can be understood in relation to Kilitbahir on the opposite shore. The waterfront location is an essential part of the visit.
The walls, defensive volumes and the naval history exhibition show how the strait shaped the town. The tour should not be confused with a visit to the Gallipoli battlefields, which lie on the European peninsula and require a separate outing. The two themes are related but operate on different scales.
Check the sections and opening days of the naval complex before entering, since access does not function like a simple public waterfront walk. The proximity to the center makes it easy to combine the castle with a stroll along the quay without dedicating a car transfer only to it.
