About Assos Örenyeri
Assos is on the Asian side, next to the village of Behramkale. The archaeological area occupies an elevation above the Aegean and is recognizable by the remains of the Temple of Athena. The terrain and the relationship with the sea help to understand why the site was chosen for the ancient city.
The visit involves walking among ruins and uneven surfaces, exposed to the sun. The complex should not be reduced to a photograph of the columns: observe the remains and the acropolis’ position relative to the slopes. Other sectors may require separate walks and access routes.
The village and the old harbor are at different levels, so don’t treat the entire route as flat. Wear sturdy footwear and check the time available before adding the descent to the shore. Late-afternoon light can enhance the view, but entry depends on the site's opening hours.
