Boğazkale – Çorum Destination Ankara

How to get there

From Ankara, follow the road toward the Sungurlu and Boğazkale sector. If using an intercity bus, check local transport needed to reach the village and move between the sites.

How many days

A full day for Hattusa and Yazılıkaya; an overnight stay in Boğazkale helps distribute the itinerary.

When to go

To tour the open area of Hattusa in Boğazkale, May, June, September and October are usually more comfortable months. July and August are hot; winter can bring snow and cold to the site's terrain.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

A car or driver helps a lot in Boğazkale: Hattusa is extensive and Yazılıkaya is accessed separately.

Frequently asked questions

Is Boğazkale the base to visit Hattusa?

The village lies next to the site of the ancient Hittite capital and allows more time to explore the complex. Staying there can prevent the visit from being squeezed between two long road stages from Ankara.

Are Hattusa and Yazılıkaya the same place?

Hattusa refers to the city with gates, temples and walls. Yazılıkaya is a sanctuary in rock chambers nearby and requires a separate stop.

Do I need a vehicle to visit the sites around Boğazkale?

The Hattusa circuit covers a wide area with climbs and remote sectors. Having organized transport makes it easier to link the points and proceed to Yazılıkaya, even though each visit continues on foot.

Is one afternoon enough to arrive from Ankara and see Boğazkale?

The road takes up a significant part of the transfer and Hattusa is not a compact ruin. Arrive with a reserved visit period; if possible, leave Yazılıkaya for another part of the day or for the next morning.
