About Playa Juan Dolio

Playa Juan Dolio stretches for several kilometers along the Caribbean coast, between Guayacanes and the entrance to San Pedro de Macorís. Sections vary: in some the sand is wide and light, in others narrow, with rocks and reefs right at the water’s edge. The sea is generally calm and warm, and the nearby reefs allow you to see colorful fish with a snorkel mask.

The beach has gained hotels and apartment buildings in recent decades, but it still feels like a quiet resort, frequented by Santo Domingo residents, foreign retirees and families on weekends. Public access points are located between the condominiums, with stalls, chairs and fried fish restaurants.

At the western end, the village of Guayacanes retains the look of a fishing village, with boats on the sand and a small, gentle beach. To the east, the coast continues to San Pedro de Macorís, a city of sugar mills and great baseball players.
