About Playa Dorada
Playa Dorada is about 5 km east of downtown Puerto Plata and gave its name to one of the country's first tourist complexes, created in the 1980s. It is a long beach of fine golden sand, with coconut palms and an Atlantic sea that alternates calm days and days with waves, depending on the wind.
Behind the beach, a golf course and about a dozen all-inclusive hotels occupy the complex, which has a shopping center, restaurants and a casino. The beach is public, and there are access points through the complex, with stalls and vendors.
Closer to the center, the waterfront continues to Playa Long Beach, frequented by locals, and to the west of the city are the beaches of Cofresí and Costámbar, with more sheltered coves.
