About Playa de Cabarete
Playa de Cabarete curves for several kilometers in front of the village, protected by a coral reef that creates a shallow lagoon between the sand and the breakers. The trade wind blows from the sea almost every day and increases in the afternoon, which made the beach one of the world centers for windsurfing since the 1980s and later for kitesurfing.
In the morning the sea is calm and good for swimming; from midday, hundreds of colorful sails fill the bay. Windsurf schools are on the main beach, and kitesurf schools concentrate at Kite Beach to the west, where there is more space. Further along, La Boca beach and Encuentro, the latter with waves, attract surfers.
At night, restaurants and bars set tables on the sand, with candles, music and grilled fish. The village revolves around the beach, with equipment shops, cafés and guesthouses a few steps from the water.
