About Salto de Jimenoa
The Salto de Jimenoa is the most visited waterfall in the Jarabacoa region. The Jimenoa river plunges about 35 meters into a narrow canyon, surrounded by forest and rock walls, forming a cold green pool at the base. The sound of the fall and the rising mist keep the spot cool even on hot days.
The path from the entrance to the waterfall descends stairs, wooden walkways and suspension bridges that cross the river, with views of the rapids. The walk is short, about 15 minutes, but includes steps. Upstream there is another fall, Jimenoa Uno, taller and more difficult to access.
The waterfall became known internationally after appearing in the opening of a Hollywood film from the 1990s. Nearby operates a small old hydroelectric plant, which became the basis for a museum.
