About Parque Dos Ojos
Dos Ojos is about 20 km north of Tulum, on a dirt road branching off highway 307. The name, "two eyes," comes from the two neighboring cenotes connected by a flooded cave. They are part of the Sac Actun system, one of the largest known underground river networks in the world, with hundreds of kilometers of explored galleries.
In both sinkholes the water is fresh and clear, with light coming from above and illuminating stalactites and columns. Snorkeling is done in the open areas and at cave entrances, with a life jacket and a flashlight, and cave diving continues into the interior with specialized guides.
The park is run by a local community and includes other cenotes and a dive center. Visits require an entrance fee and follow rules to protect the water, such as showering before entering and banning common sunscreen.
Because it lies between Akumal and Tulum, Dos Ojos pairs well with the bay of turtles on the same day.
